Derrick was kind enough to answer questions from Yourgasms’ readers.
Yourgasms – How did you get your first acting job?
Derrick Pierce – At the time that I started, I was making money and I wasn’t hurting but I wasn’t making the money I could make in adult. The girl that I was dating at the time also started in adult and it was kind of a joint venture. The conversation was her saying, “Well, you need to learn how to shoot, how to hold the camera and how to work the lights!” But that’s not something you can just walk on a set and learn how to do. People kept asking if I was talent and I told them that I’m the pervert that watches this stuff. And so she and I spoke about it on a couple of other occasions and she basically said that I’m crazy if I don’t have sex with other women for money. After a few months of talking about it and seeing what the numbers looked like, she asked if I could do it. “Well, shit, I don’t know. I think so.” So she said if I can get hired, try it and see how it goes. I basically lied my way onto my first porn shoot and I’ve been in it ever since.
Yourgasms – What was your first day on the job like?
Derrick – My first shoot was good. It wasn’t a horror story. It was extremely nerve wracking. The very first movie was for a now-defunct company, DVSX, and the director was Guy Capo. It was Gothsend 4 with Vanessa Lane, who was a stunner and not to mention a great fucking body. I think I made it because I pulled up in the driveway with a hard-on, ready to go. I wasn’t super confident, it was “Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God…what the fuck did I get myself into?” At the time, there was a website called Pornstar Performance used to rate talent. The director or producer would put comments down on your performance and attitude and stuff like that. I guess the scene went really well and Guy wrote some really nice stuff about me. Some other producers read it and hired me and the rest is porno history.
We are hired for the opportunity to be watched and ogled in a particular setting, but we choose the method of activity and retain the option to say “no.”
Yourgasms – Do you feel as a man you’re being exploited by your industry?
Derrick – I feel that sword cuts both ways. It has its moments of empowerment and exploitation almost simultaneously. We are hired for the opportunity to be watched and ogled in a particular setting, but we choose the method of activity and retain the option to say “no.”
Yourgasms – How do friends and family feel about your job?
Derrick – I don’t really speak to any of my family outside my mom and stepfather and they are supportive. As far as my friends go…It’s the funniest thing they can talk about when we all get together. “How’s work, bro?” They get a kick out of it, but if it wasn’t for them keeping me grounded, my ego would be (more) out of control!
Yourgasms – Would you recommend this job to other men?
Derrick – This business is a tough gig. It’s long hours and riddled with rejection. Thick skin isn’t a suggestion but a prerequisite. It’s all self-promotion as well. Agents do a little bit, but not much. It’s all about what YOU do for yourself.
Yourgasms – What are your favorite aspects about being an adult entertainer?
Derrick – The best thing about being an adult performer is that it actually allows me the opportunity to get to know someone OUTSIDE of sexual contact. Since I have sex for a living, it’s ok if we skip it from time to time and focus on real conversation.
Yourgasms – Who are your favorite people to do scenes with?
Derrick – My favorite porn star (if I had to choose just one) would be Jessica Drake. She pretty much embodies what a real woman is. She is so very comfortable with her role as a strong female and a woman, yet she still has a very soft and sensual side. And her physical features..Wow! Fit and athletic and all kinds of fun! I also love to shoot with Asa Akira, Kendra Lust and Mercedes Carerra.
