Smart, articulate, sexy and sexual, Lily Cade is breaking all kinds of stereotypes in porn (except for the sexy part). This former Kentucky farm girl is making a name for herself on camera, online and as a writer/director/producer. Lily attended Cal Tech for two years and graduated from the nation’s most prestigious cinema program, the USC Film School. While in university, she worked as a dominatrix to help pay her bills. Lily began her career in porn in 2008 with a girl/girl scene with Capri Cavanni. Lily is “100% lesbian,” and has since show scenes for Exquisite, Filly Films, Girlfriends Films, Nightingale Pictures, and Pure Play Media. She stepped behind the camera to direct her first adult feature only two years into her porn career. Lily’s on-camera and behind-the-camera work has led to a long list of AVN and XBIZ Award nominations including Best All Girl Performer, Best All-Girl Group Sex Scene, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best BDSM Scene among many others. To get a true sense of her wit and wisdom, read her blog where she writes about everything from porn to feminism to BDSM to commentary on the adult entertainment industry. Lily is married her college sweetheart Sten who she’s been since 2005.
Yourgasms.com – What was your first day on the job like?
Lily Cade – I answered an ad on craigslist and booked my first girl/girl scene in 2008. When I arrived on set, I was greeted by two tan blondes who sent me to Rite-Aid to buy a spray tan. I wasn’t the least bit uncomfortable shooting sex, but I felt embarrassed buying sunless tanner. I was such a goth girl back then. I got the lightest one and returned to get my makeup done. The scene was supposed to be that it was my first time with a girl, but the director took one look at me and changed the scene. To this day, I’ve never done an “it’s my first time” scene. I’d had sex with at least 100 girls before I got into porn, including on stage and in front of groups, so doing it on camera wasn’t a big leap for me. I loved the job and wanted to do more.
Yourgasms.com – Do you feel as a woman you’re being exploited by your industry?
Lily – I don’t feel exploited at all. I went into this because I love sex, I love being watched, and because I didn’t see people like me represented in porn and wanted to change that. I’m a strong willed person who knows how to take care of myself. I’ve never taken shoots I didn’t want. No one has ever pressured me into doing things I wasn’t comfortable doing. I go to set and have passionate sex with beautiful girls. I’m living the life.
Yourgasms.com – Do you feel proud of your work?
Lily – Very much so. I’m proud to represent lesbian sexuality, to show up to porn valley sets and show them how a real dyke does it. I’ve brought pleasure to 1000s of women directly, and to many other people through my work. I’m especially proud of the movies I’ve directed, which have given me a chance not just to showcase authentic sexuality, but to tell stories that matter to me.
Yourgasms.com – What happens if you don’t like the other performer or performers with whom you’re doing a scene?
Lily – Most of the time, I’m attracted to my scene partner, but every now and then I have to work to manufacture chemistry. I don’t consider my job to be having sex, but creating a performance piece. It’s my responsibility not just to fuck my scene partner, but to make her feel good and look good on camera. I find something I like about everyone I work with, even if she’s not really my type or we don’t really click. I don’t see the point of going into a scene and not putting my whole self into it.
Yourgasms.com – Who is your boss?
Lily – I’m an independent contractor who works for lots of different companies, but I’m my own boss. I own a production company, run my website LilyCade.com and manage my brand. There’s actually a lot of work that goes into being a porn star, from keeping in shape to interacting with fans on social media to shooting and editing my own content. It’s a full time job, but one I absolutely love.
Yourgasms.com – Are your on-camera orgasms ever real?
Lily – I have real orgasms in almost all of my scenes. It’s always been pretty easy to get me off, and I’m not opposed to telling a girl exactly how to do it. The porn I do is focused on female pleasure. We want to make each other come.
Yourgasms.com – What do you hope happens when people watch your videos?
Lily – I want to turn people on and make them think. I don’t do fake bullshit. I fuck girls right. I love when fans tell me they’ve learned something from my videos, either about sex or about the world. I’ve had girls tell me they realized they were gay or bisexual from watching my work. I’ve had guys tell me they’ve learned how to pleasure their partners more effectively.
Yourgasms.com – What was your favorite scene, and why is it your favorite?
Lily – My scene with Anikka Albrite in Heartbreaker Vs Obscura: Lesbian Superheros is a personal favorite. I really love this scene both because my chemistry with Anikka was off the charts, and because it’s so well integrated into the story. I won’t give the ending away, but I will tell you that my Director of Photography teared up during this scene because the emotions were so real. The whole movie is awesome. You should definitely check it out.
Yourgasms.com – Do you ever meet your fans? What’s that like?
Lily – I’ve met some of my fans, both at conventions and out in the world. I’ve had overwhelmingly positive interactions with my fans. There are a select few male fans I have met in person and enjoy spending time with. I think because I’m so open about being a lesbian, I attract a different kind of fan than other girls. They aren’t looking to fuck me, but to talk to me and get insight into my world. I’ve also hooked up with female fans. The thing I live for is showing a woman a really good time, so I think it’s hot if she’s getting off on the fantasy of fucking a porn star.
Yourgasms.com – Does your private sex life ever mirror the movies you’re in?
Lily – I take inspiration from my private sex life and bring it to the screen. The character I play in movies is very much based on myself. To me, porn isn’t about putting on a show for the camera, but about representing my authentic sexuality. When I’m on set with a girl, I’m focused on her. If I can’t get her off for real, I haven’t done my job right. The sex I have on camera features a lot of athletic positions that I don’t always break out in private, but otherwise it’s pretty similar to what I do when the cameras aren’t rolling.
